Byzantine Soft Stone
Made from cement powder combined with ground dolomite and coloured with mineral oxides. This mixture is pressed at high pressure in a mould to form individual tiles that be cut with regular tile nippers. We carry 3 sizes 5mm and 10mm squares and 10x20mm rectangles. All tiles are approximately 4mm thick These tiles are not suitable for outdoor use unless properly protected from humidity during frost season and some fading may occur with UV exposure. They look like traditional stones used in Byzantine and Roman mosaics but without the difficulty of working with natural stone. These tiles are porous and can be sealed using a diluted PVA adhesive.
